Several counties in the Chicago area are now at COVID’s “High Community Level,” the CDC says – NBC Chicago

As cases of COVID continue to increase around the United States, most Illinois states have a “high community level” of the virus, including a few in the Chicago area.

According to the latest Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the number of illnesses and hospitalizations is on the rise because six counties in Illinois are in the NBC 5 viewing zone.

Among them is Cook County, which received more than 320 new COVID cases per 100,000 residents per week and 11 new COVIDs per 100,000 residents.

McHenry, Lake, DuPage, Grundy, and Will counties also have “high community levels” of the virus, and the CDC recommends residents wear indoor masks regardless of vaccination status.

Officials say 15 of Illinois’s 102 counties are now at “high community levels” of the virus.

Despite an increase in hospitalizations in most communities in the state, the number has begun to decline. In fact, the number of COVID cases dropped by 200 cases per week per 100,000 residents in each county in the Chicago area, including 100,000 in Kankaki County.

This has led Kankaki County to a “low community level” of COVID, according to the CDC guidelines.

According to new guidelines issued by the CDC, a county is considered a “high community level” of COVID if the district has an average weekly incidence of more than 200 cases per 100,000 residents and an average of 10 hospitalizations per week for COVID. it is seen that 10% or more of the hospital beds are occupied by COVID patients.
