REVIEW – Worship of the Lamb (2022, Devolver Digital)

Cult of the Lamb Coming to PC and consoles on August 11, 2022. Released a new game producer digital return produced by Massive MonsterAn independent English studio responsible for other good games like The Adventure Pals (2018) and Never give up (2019).

Cult of the Lamb – a roguelite Sarcastically cute with colony controls available for PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X | S. Check out our review below.

Worship of the Lamb puts the player in the role of a possessed lamb who has been saved from destruction by a dangerous stranger and must repay his debt by recruiting loyal followers on his behalf.

Create your own cult in the land of false prophets by venturing into mysterious and varied regions to build a loyal community of forest followers and spread your Word and become the only true cult.

This year, the indie industry is showing its strength, releasing good titles with entertainment potential and staying power, taking on the major players in the market. Massive Monster didn’t stray from this trend, delivering high quality story, graphics, gameplay and audio.

Trying to make a comparison, I managed to make a connection with the Adoration of the Lamb Don’t starve (2013), for its tragic theme and exceptional humor, as well as with No one saves the world (2022), for its apparent satirical innocence and bright colors.

The plot

The basics of the plot have already been explained in the synopsis. We started our journey like a friendly lamb dying to the end. After being judged by four ancient gods who felt their sacrifices were necessary to prevent the prophecy from being fulfilled, we take our first steps to form a cult.

He will be resurrected by being summoned the one who waitsthe lamb returns armed with armor and the cursed Red Crown, not even realizing why he made the deal, to build a cult in his benefactor’s name to repay his debt.

As you search for answers and explore more of the Old Faithful, the story grows with nuances and subplots that add to the appeal. Another great success of the game is the irony of the adorable lamb, who has become such a vessel of chaos that he spreads carnage wherever he goes, advised by amoral creatures like sadists.

As I said, not only the plot, but the cute side of the little lamb is different and often contributes to sarcasm. The design and music are also child’s play.

Cheerful and bright colors. Smooth and outstanding animations. Loud and lively songs. The game is an eternal counterpoint, because one moment we are enjoying this lovely bath, and the next we are immersed in a ritual of sacrifice. Cthulian.

Also known as Audio Director’s work River Boy, was excellent. He manages to engage all the senses in this reel of inconsistencies offered by The Worship of the Lamb. Not only did he create music that takes you from horror to amusement park, but he also created sound effects that let you feel every move, attack, and action happening on screen.

Speaking of feeling what’s happening on screen, one of the first things that struck me about The Prayer of the Lamb was the responsiveness of its movements. With basic and well-presented mechanics, the game allows you to control the character properly, feel every action performed through camera movements, sounds or controller vibrations.

Another big hit regarding gaming is about this a stream of the game (I found out in the interview Ben Espositocreator neon white. O a stream, in Portuguese, is equivalent to the cadence in experience. The game offers a dynamic proposition in exploration mode roguelitewith various battles in small rooms filled with items, enemies and broken objects.

To balance out a possible 12-hour game, there’s a balance between focusing on maintaining your cult. During these stages, the experience becomes a concept similar to colony management and survival games.

Tools and scripts

as in others roguelikesCoincidence also plays a prominent role in the worship of the Lamb.

First, through weapons and spells (called curses in the game) that are randomly offered at the start of each new dungeon. In addition, the scenarios are procedurally generated and offer different challenges in each iteration – which can be caused by one of the other factors.

As a final random factor, the game offers a tarot deck. With each new dungeon the player will find clauneck, the archetypal wisecracking character who offers you a card every encounter, as well as the ever-popular Pills. Maps can give the player some advantages, one of which, as I mentioned, is being able to see all the rooms on the dungeon map without exploring it.

Cult of the Lamb knows how to manage anticipation and performance very well, delivering a fun, lighthearted experience that can keep you engaged for hours. Easy travel, no stickiness advocates or if there is a lot to explore, the game can last about 15 hours.

The game deserves praise not only for its length, but for keeping you busy for all those hours. Although it seems possible, at no point did I get bored or irritated by the repetition, because unlike the story in the demo, the pace of the game in the full version is very balanced.

I am very happy with the high quality indie games achieved the last titles. I strongly believe in the re-release of this market, where players and companies will increasingly appreciate these small and ingenious game producers.
