QN90B 2022, Samsung’s new gaming TVs. Is it worth it?

Samsung on Tuesday (14) launched a new line of smart TVs aimed at the gaming audience. This QN90B 2022 is four-dimensional, suitable for computer gamers (43 and 50 inches) and console gamers (55 and 65 inches).

inclination Taking the 50-inch model, the game tested various features that promised to improve the fans experience. After almost a week of evaluation, I came to the conclusion that the device is fine, but it is not important to install the player.

The TV provides the promised 4K resolution, but its audio system is much more impressive than all the pictures – and one thing tells me that this is not Samsung’s goal.

One of the best points is the exclusive menu for the games. Called the “Game Center,” it simplifies sound and image configuration.

There are pre-programmed styles for each game genre, such as sports, FPS (first person shooter, “Rainbow Six Siege”) and RTS (real-time strategy such as “Civilization”). And the refresh rate can reach 144 Hz for 43 ”and 50” models and 120 Hz for 55 ”and 65”.

While impressive, there are almost no games in this resolution. In my tests with the PS4 and PS5, there was no difference between games with a refresh rate of 120 frames per second and a 50-inch TV. It was a positive experience, but not a surprise because I have a TV. 120Hz.

The player menu looked promising from June 30, when Xbox Cloud Gaming will launch on Samsung TVs. For those who missed the announcement, Microsoft said players will be able to access the full Game Pass catalog through the app on the brand’s TVs without having a console or computer.

So, the player will be much more economical to assemble his installation: instead of spending on a modern console and TV, just buy the latest product from Samsung’s 2022 collection. In this case and only in this case, the QN90B deserves a choice. Otherwise, any 4K HDR TV will do its job.

the sound of a movie

The pictures didn’t impress me, the audio was a different story. After setting up the TV (about 15 minutes, I found it a bit redundant), I played a few videos on YouTube to make sure everything was fine. Although the platform does not provide the highest audio quality, you can feel the power of Dolby Atmos.

Since I’m used to using headphones, I thought I’d miss them in games like Fortnite, so sound is very important for gaming. Surprisingly, the TV exceeded my expectations, and I was able to play quietly with the help of built-in speakers.

I think it’s important to note that in tests with other forms of entertainment, such as listening to music, watching videos, or watching superhero movies, audio is still the best, since almost no one buys a TV just for gaming. The QN90B never sinned and I felt like I was baptized at every event.

At the model presentation event, I was able to test the TV with a Samsung soundboard and a Logitech headset – both of which were offered as a combo during the pre-sale with the QN90B. While they do their job very well, I’m sure consumers will be happy to know that they don’t need other audio equipment to get the full experience.

Voice control and assistant

The “smart” part works very well with a good range of applications. All you have to do is log in to the App Store, set up your account, and click a few times to enjoy everything.

Bluetooth is fast and reliable. If you turn off the TV but do not turn off the bluetooth on your mobile phone, for example, when you play some music on your smartphone, it will turn on automatically when you continue playing.

Control, minimalism, bothered me a bit. It took a while to figure out what and when to press, but the functionality of accessing the voice assistants with a button made me feel like I was in an episode of “Jetsons” (and that’s a good thing).

If your goal is to improve the skills of your players, think about it. If you have a high-end console, you may have a TV that meets your graphics needs. Even if you want a new one, there are other monitors and TVs on the market that meet this demand very well.

As I said before, I see the QN90B as a great option for those who don’t want to spend it on a console or computer, but want to use the Xbox service on a TV designed for it.

Now, if you want to use your TV for other entertainment, this is a great choice. Makes the experience of high-quality audio movies and TV series included in 4K images much more enjoyable.
