Poor eyesight can be the result of habits and lifestyle choices, as well as pre-health conditions. Genetics, age, and your personal environment, including a combination of factors, can affect your vision. Even if people correct their vision by wearing glasses or contact lenses, they may not pay attention to the other steps needed to take care of their eyesight. Because the world is surrounded by screens, it is easy to develop bad habits that contribute to poor eyesight. The World Health Organization estimates that at least 2.2 billion people worldwide have poor or short-sightedness. In at least 1 billion or almost half of these cases, vision impairment can be prevented or is still unresolved. In an interview with HT Lifestyle, Dr. Tushar Grover, Medical Director of the Vision Eye Center in New Delhi, reveals 5 daily habits that should be avoided for a lifetime: (Anna Shvets)

1. Excessive use of smartphones - Smartphones, if you use them for several hours every day, can worsen your eyesight and lead to vision problems, especially if you try to read a lot of small text on the screen of your mobile phone. Like smartphones, prolonged exposure to a laptop screen can damage your eyes, as the light emitted from these screens can cause dry eyes, headaches and eye fatigue. Too much exposure to screens can lead to blurry and confusing views. (Ravi Kumar / HT)

4. Rub your eyes often - You should avoid rubbing your eyes as much as you want. This is because you can damage the outer surface of your eyes, itch, burn, get dirty in your eyes and spread bacteria. Frequent rubbing of the eye can also lead to weakening of the cornea, which can lead to irreversible vision loss. If you need to wipe, you can sprinkle a little water on it or use a cold compress to reduce irritation. (Carolina Grabowska)

Dr. Tushar Grover said: “In addition to these habits, not eating a healthy diet, not drinking enough water, and not getting enough sleep can also lead to vision loss.
